I tried to get on the 57ford.com forum but it appears to be down, so will post here. This is a long story, but, but my 57 car has been converted to a 58 (recirculating ball) steering box. That part is fine, however the "column assembly" including the Horn setup was not available. The horn system is completely different than 57 & prior. No drilled steering box shaft for the horn feed after 57. I received advice from a couple of sources on the 57 site as to how to make the horn conversion, & I believe some help here also. I also purchased an oem Horn Wire Terminal Support and Wire part #B8A-14308-A as directed from the 57 Ford site. ( the metal ring setup to complete the horn circuit) for the top of the steering column, and also recently got a used somewhat similar, but bigger setup from a helpful member of this site. It has taken me some time to find the small Horn Brush Wire & Contact, (for the steering wheel) but that was also supplied by the same helpful site member. So, I pulled the steering wheel today,.. & am left scratching my head? I can't see any way that either of the "contact ring" setups can be installed in the 57 column. The pod at the top of the column contains the turn signal setup & there is no way that I can see either of the parts I have, are going to fit. There just isn't any room. The Horn Brush that completes the circuit from the horn ring to the metal ring in the column, can probably be installed in the steering wheel, but that is only 1/2 of the setup. Unless I'm missing the obvious, it appears that the upper column on a 58 must be deeper & or a different design to accept the required parts.. Bummer! Anyone here have any experience with this situation? Sorry for the long explanation but could not come up with a shorter one..thanks..
