I just picked up two Y blocks tonight. One is a C2AE industrial motor (I will have to take a photo of the engine mounts - they make a nice portable test stand) and the other is a B9AE block from a truck that had C0TE heads. I told the seller he could go ahead and keep the bellhousing off of the B9AE block. He decided to pull the flywheel before he delivered it to me, and lo and behold, a crank flange with no dots, no crescents, no squared off lines of demarcation, absoutely smooth all the way around - is it possible? The flange itself looks like forged steel, bit it is really hard to tell. Did Ford ever make another crank with that type of flange? Anywho, the seller thought I was trying to get over on him,,,but of course, I had no idea because I never saw the flange until he pulled the flywheel (that bellhousing was filled acorns). Good crank for my blown setup??? The pole barn/garage just needs garage doors, electric, and of course a concrete floor and Y block Ministries is on its way!!!!!

Unless people have been lying to me the last 50 years, the forged crank is the only one with no notches. I have one that I got by accident too. I bought a 55 Ford parts car and knew it had to be a motor out of a truck because it had 2 dip sticks. I discovered it was a forged crank when I removed the flywheel and no markings. The metal even looks different. I never have figured out what to do with mine. I have a bunch of stuff that I want to use build something like I would have built 50 years ago, but I just have too many projects.

Once you drop the pan you will be able to tell for sure. The forged cranks look very different from the cast in that the two center balancers are not there. I don't have one, but I did see a photo once and I think that is what I remember. Of course at my age I could be wrong. If so, I apologize. Rono.

The forged cranks have no center counterweights and the edges are smooth, and generally all/most ford forged cranks have the dollar $ sign on them. Great find!!

Dan: Don't be surprised if you find it has C1TE rods in it too. John

The steel cranks have six counterweights while the cast cranks have eight. As Rono and Bill mention, steel cranks have no counterweights around the center main. But based on the rear flange not having the scallop, it does sound like you have a steel crank.

I appreciate the thought but that was tounge in cheek.. you don't owe me a thing brother.. funny story though, after you told me what happened to that valley pan i shipped you i had to ship some other parts, so i go up to the counter and get the postage put on the box and i say " hey can i put something on here so they won't mutilate it when they ship it?" and they say "well it's going parcel post and that happens sometimes, but if you ship it Priority it won't happen." I rebut "well i shipped the last thing Priority and it showed up to it's destination looking like someone had done the Mexican Hat Dance on it so you wanna try that line again?" they proceeded to stamp "fragile" stamps all over it and appologize repeatedly..

I'm surprised they apologized. UPS and FedEx have broken a few things I have shipped and all they can say is that I didn't package it properly. Even though the way I package I thought you could drop it from a thousand feet and it would be OK, they come up with new ways to be abusive.

Dustin and Tim, for the record, I have loaded quite a few UPS trailers in my day (not a career choice, but it was a good job while I was in college). It is real work, I can say that. But, I have seen so many boxes (and their contents) crushed because of two main reasons - 1. Handling speed - the focus was always on getting things out the door to meet the truck! and 2. Building walls - if you know anything about how the trailers are loaded (at least 15 years ago when I was doing it), you were always instructed to smoosh, flatten, pancake, manipulate, extrapolate, abuse, manhandle, downsize, and flat out crush all boxes that were being used to make your "wall" in the trailer every several feet or so. The wall was done this way to keep boxes "from falling down on top of each other" in the trailer during transit.Couple those two items with the fact that boxes were not sorted by heavy weight first, but just delivered by conveyor according to zip code...and you have a real messy situation. I got yelled at a few times by supervisors to say the least, because I guess I was trying to load the trailer like my dad taught me to do it years ago unlike the other fellas bent on making a dollar...go figure. As to the 292 crank, I will have to get in there next week and check it out. I did take photos of the Industrial Engine that has a tidy looking rear valley pan breather (yes, breather caps on front and back). The breather tube and cap looks FoMoCo. And the motor has its own mounting plates on the front and rear of the block that allow you to run the motor as is with the starter attached to the rear plate, but no bellhousing needed. Can't imagine what it was used for, but it is a C2AE block that has some original tags on it...May post in the this and that section...
