Block deck reinforcing (?) posts

While inspecting the cooling spaces in my '59-60 B9AE block, I was surprised to discover three long threaded rods on each bank between the deck and bottom of the block. Had never before seen a hint their existence in any description/exploded diagram. Is this feature something related to the casting/mold process? Does every engine block have them? Or, maybe something strictly "Y-Block-related" to reinforce the deck? Found in all years, or a progressive development feature (like head posts)?

I've not seen any threaded rods in the water jackets of any blocks I've disassembled yet. They definitely were not used in all.

I havent found any either in blocks from '55 - '64.

The rods leave a trace circle of color different from iron (steel?) visible in the block deck. An online Ford Truck/Earl's World resto article shows good photos of a '56 ECG block that has them.

Daniel, do you have a link to the site? I can't seem to find it and would like to see the pictures.

The wires you are seeing are put into the sand cores to hold them together during the casting process.

They just more noticeable on a freshly decked block

I am aware of the small rod like inserts visible in the deck area, assuming these are what daniel was mentioning? other engines have them and are not special to the y block, i am only guessing they may help support the core sand material during casting? but look forward to the definite answer. pegleg, john m and ted? regards bill.

I have read that thread, very interesting, I don't think the guy will ever finish it though.  Talk about a labor of love, this guy rebuilt EVERYTHING himself.

What mummert said.... they're usually just mild steel and are supposed to fallout after casting the part. If they don't, you get what the picture shows. Doesn't hurt anything, and is not a "Speed Secret".

Daniel, thanks for the link.
