Sometimes, Y-Blocks end on some prety unusual places, and sometime replacing very bad engines. Even though I'm not a Chevy enthusiast, I have nothing against them, they will never be as kool as Fords, but are not bad cars. I do have something against mopars. I really don't like them. They are a endless source of problems, from craked pilars, extreme rust, poor quality, and constant suspension problems (at least here where I live).

I also don't like the sound of the 318 engine, so when I heard a great V8 engine sound comming down the road, the only thing I was no prepared to see was a Brasilian Dodge Cherger (a Dart with some penache).

The reason was simple, the car, even being a basket case, heve being fixed, at least on the engine department.

Take a look!!

I had a perfect day after seeing that!!!!

He needs some Y-Block Forever stickers and a club plate! Too bad he can't come up for the Y-Block Nationals AND the Mopar meet!

While serving in South East Asia it was not uncommon to see engine swaps based on availability. In Thailand the Sergeant in charge of the Royal Thai Police near Udorn drove a 60 Pontiac hardtop. He hung around the club and we often made a run on the town bars together. The car seemed to move down the road just fine! Imagine my surprise when he raised the hood one day and showed me the Toyota 4 cylinder that was powering it. They used the complete engine trans and made some not too pretty brackets to bolt it all in. To them the "American Car" was the important thing! Made him look important to the local Thai officials. Not that he wasn't a big dog in the region anyway!

Just an afterthought buy would you think the "Legendary Ford" magazine people would be interested in an article?Tongue Chuck in New Hampshire, USA

The thing about haveing a different breed motor in your car/truck reminds me of a friend of mine from Cuba. They would replace a motor from whatever they could get to run a car. He has a brother-in-law with a 57 Chevy 4dr. that has a 4 cyl. Perkins diesel tractor motor from a Ford 5000.  Said he get unbelievable fuel economy with it. I like the Y in the Mopar thats pretty good.

Tulio: Cute! I wonder how effective that tiny little air cleaner element is? And Tulio, remind the owner to keep the screen clean, in that rather small oil filler cap, or the engine will sludge up...

Paul, that's true.

I just known the owner enough to take te pictures. I was at my Buddy Maycon's engine shop, and we both got puzzled with that Charger. It was missing the vinyl top, almost all the trim, but had an Y under the hood.

Maycon is a Mopar guy himself, (so all that I talk about Mopar guys is just for fun, plese, don't take it seriously), but he also loves Fords. He owns a '79 Dodge Magnum (another Dart with body mods) with a veru strong 318 engine, that he uses for drag racing. His daily driver is a '74 Ford F100 with a 351 Windsor, C4, and lots of Edelbrock go fast parts, like heads, intake, carb, etc.

He says the engines he likes to work the most are Y-Blocks, ang GM 250 inline sixes. he's not a fan of the chebby small block. he and 90% of hodders around here, that prefere the 302 Windsor small block. Even on chevys. The 318 mopar, and Y's are considered too heavy, and low on speed equipment around here.

I spent a lot building my 292, and she only got some clevite pistons 0.060 over, a skenderian cam, ported heads, double valve springs, and a custom Autolite 2100 carb. I got what a wanted, a 292 that's strongest than a factory 302, what turned my Galaxie into a sleeper.

On the subject of engines in strange places, I was told that International used some Y-Blocks in Scouts ect. Anyone know if there is any truth to that or just one of those stories.
