Just registered here tonight. Been hanging out at FordFE.com for a while. Lots of really good stuff going on over there for any FE folks. I found a 65 Galaxie 2dr and the information they have helped a lot. I have had a 57 Black Tbird 312 for about 12 years. I love yblocks and have followed the resurgence of popularity since the early days of Yblock Magazine. Met Jerry Christensen when he came out to Bakersfield many years ago (10+?) to run his TBird. I bought an old marine intake system from Mummert around the same time along with an Offy 3x2 manifold to experiment with a Ford EEC4 EFI conversion. Got started online with a guy named Walt Knuckles but sadly he passed away suddenly. Anyway, I want to start some serious work on the Bird and looking forward to getting some good conversation and tips here. I am in Northern California near Santa Cruz and a retired Ford Tech.

Mark    Welcome to this site.  We have THE best (and polite) contributors possible.  They range from Australia, Europe, Finland the USA and Kalifornia.   You will learn a lot about Y-block's here.  I see you also have an FE engine and I suspect that many members here have them and can help with questions.  We even have a few folks that are into English cars and bikes, might want to keep a way from ch ... stuff though Wink    -Bob

Mark.  Welcome to the site.  Just feel free to ask questions and contribute.  And enjoy being part of a great bunch of folks.  Ditto on Walt Knuckles as he’s a local legend in my part of the country and is genuinely missed.

Thanks for the good welcome. I recognize most of you from articles in Y Block Magazine and from the old Ford Y Block forum that Knuckles, Pegleg, and others used to post at. I have some questions about work on my Bird so I will start another thread.

Mark,

Another welcome to the site from your neighbors in the valley.  Being that you have Y-Block Magazine and some Y-Blocksforever experience now, you know what a great bunch of gear heads live here.  We don't do T-Birds (wish we did), but if you are ever in our neighborhood, please stop by to say hello.

We spent New Years Eve in Santa Cruz, sure like your beach community weather (t-shirts Saturday afternoon!).  We are 80 miles from Fomoso and I bet we have passed each other a few times at March Meets.

Welcome Mark,

I only recently joined, and like you I had been reading this

site and the FE site. These are a great bunch of guys and

are full of info regarding our favorite mill.

Yeah, it's too bad about Walt Knuckles. I got a lot of info

from him.

Mark: A side note. If you still have the Offy Tri Power, an article in YBM about intakes, concluded that intake has a very poor interior design & performs poorly.

Yes. I have the Yblock magazines with that information. I got it cheap with the idea of cobbling up a EFI manifold using the runners and mounting flanges. If I remember the Edelbrock 573 was the one that tested best. The last thing Walt Knuckles did was adapt a EEC IV TFI ignition module to Y block distributor. I intended on fabbing up a manifold with long runners and plenum similar to the GT40 Intake and use the Ford Racing Parts MAF kit along with a Ford (Powerdyne) supercharger kit from my previous 95 F150 Lightning. Big ideas but life has it's own directions sometimes. There isn't much serious Y block interest in the SF bay area. Wish there was more West Coast action. I am thinking of warming up the TBird 312 while I have it out. It runs fairly strong as it is but it would be fun getting it up to 300 hp. I would like one of the milder cams, headers, and a new better sounding dual exhaust. At the least, I am going to get one of Mummerts new 4 bbl aluminum intakes and a finned valley cover to go with the stock finned Tbird covers already on it.
