Never buying a red vehicle again.

I've had my car about 6 years now. And I've had the worst luck with it as far as dents and dings go. It is red. In the 1st week of ownership, someone backed straight into it. It was a low speed collision so there wasn't enough damage to get concerned about. I've put 2 dents in it, one this morning; the mail box lost. I've had a hit and run. A friend backed into the door. It's been doored in a parking lot many times.

It's irrational to put all of that blame on the color. When it is considered that I've had the truck for 9 years, with the first 3 being my only source of transportation and far less damage has been done to it and it's not red, it makes me wonder just how irrational the color is. It's the same driver operating the vehicles. By today's standard, the truck was "unsafe" for today's traffic for many years, particularly when I first got it and I just wasn't sure if the brakes would stop me or not.

Of the 2 dents I've caused, only one was while trying to have a little fun, which I do a lot in the car because it handles reasonably well. That one was this morning. Sometimes we gotta pay for our funBigGrin

Has anyone else had bad luck with certain color vehicles or other quirks?

I never associated being hit with a particular color, but I do remember certain people having the bad luck of being bumped in parking lots. I always told them to paint a target on all 4 fenders and no one would hit it.

Charlie,

Re: MAILBOX.

I was driving to work one winter morning (front wheel drive econobox) on a borderline rural street, that was essentially just a sheet of ice. For some reason (don't ask me why) I suddenly became curious about what exactly would happen if I pulled the parking brake (can you say pinwheel?). Must have been a regular thoroughfare for other idiots, as the mailbox I hit was mounted in a bucket of concrete, and popped right back up like a Bobo doll. Of course, this was many years ago, and I have learned subsequently about the difference between modern PARKING (single wheel) and 50s EMERGENCY brakes. Not that the result would likely have been any different, but I do like to think I was at least smart enough to realize locking one rear wheel on sheer ice would not turn out well.

I dont have a problem with a certain color of car, just the kind of car. Me and a friend both had several Rancheros over the years and both of us seemed to get into some kind of fender-benders one time or another.  We used to joke that Rancheros had bad bodys on them. Knock on wood, the Ranchero I have now has avoided a similar fate.

Red, Black and green are my favorite colors in cars and can't see a difference in which car will get banged up anymore than the other. However my black bird did take a pretty good lick about a year ago but don't attribute that to its color.

I don't associate damage to body color,  but I usually end up with green vehicles.  When I want a green truck, and have many,  I end up with red, or any other color but green. LOL
