'57 O.E. Air Cleaner Interference

Fellas- I've installed a Holley #143045-1 and have an issue with the original style fuel line/ inlet not allowing the O.E. air cleaner to properly seat. I perused the T-bird partshouse catalog, and they list a line to be used in conjunction w/ the newer style Holley- is this the solution? I also dug out a "banjo" fitting I used in an Edlebrock carb I had. I really didn't want to use any rubber fuel line on top of the motor if I could avoid it, but will if it's the only solution- Is it? /Duck

You should be able to use hard line one way or another. Which carb is that? I'm not finding anything about that model with Google, and such.

Charley- It's a re-manned Holly that the Holley factory did to '57 312 specs. That number is off the factory sticker-

Will something like this work?

It uses a 6an inlet which is a 3/8" line. A good eye might catch the larger line but you should be able to hide the an fitting reasonably well. The pump end can be an inverted flare fitting which should blend in well.



Another thing you can try is to go to a good, family owned type of parts store and see if you can find a 90 degree fitting which will allow the use of stock sized line. I think I've seen these.

Yes-use the Tbird parts supplier kit. I helped a friend change the carb and used the kit - it works.



You don't happen to have an extra bottom for a 57 air cleaner????

Thanks for the thoughts, Fellas- according to Don at CASCO, the banjo style fitting is the original fuel line/ carb junction. I'll see if I can achieve that w/ what I already have on hand. Paul; no, I'm sorry to say I don't- and from what I've seen/ read, I'm glad I don't have to pony up to buy one, either w00t /Duck

The original 57 carb has the fuel fitting located lower on the float bowl. A later Holley has the fitting moved higher on the float bowl.

I found this out when I used the carb off my 61 390/375 on my Tbird.

312's like a 600 CFM carb. A lot.
