Just ordered Ignitor 2 and Flame Thrower coil.

When installing on my 57 292 Y Block, do I use the factory resistor or not

Thanks

Should tell you in the instructions for the coil when you get it.

I put the same combination in my 56 Customline with a modified 292 and I am not using the ballast resistor. You will need to widen the gap on your spark plugs to .042-045, but all that should be in the instructions also.

The instruction sheet in the written portion specifically recommends installing the units without the resistor in place.  Clouding the issue are two schematics of which one shows the wiring with a resistor and another without the resistor.  I install the Pertronix ignitions without the resistor as per the written part of the instructions and (cross my fingers) haven’t had any trouble yet.  I do maintain the factory specified spark plug gaps though and firmly believe that the factory spark plug gaps are more conducive to having the units last longer.

I use this same combination in my 59 Edsel 292. I just bypassed the ballast resistor and left the spark plug gap as factory spec. The Edsel runs way better and that ignition acts like it will fire anything. It also starts a lot easier.
