Does anyone know if there ever were any 312s in large Ford trucks (like one step below semis, I tink the one I'm looking at is a fuel truck)?

Jester:

No 312s were factory installed installed in trucks.  The one you're looking at, if a Y block, is probably a HD 292.  Could also be a Lincoln based HD truck engine.

If I remember, most USAF aviation fuel/oil/demineralized water tank trucks used the 292 version. Then the FE 352 came in.

Is there an easy way to tell Lincoln Y's from Ford Y's?
By Hoosier Hurricane - 15 Years Ago
Jester:

The surface where the thermostat housing mounts is vertical on a 292, horizontal on the Lincoln.  Also, the exhaust manifold bolt holes are in a straight line on a 292, staggered on the Lincoln.
