Machine shops in Ohio that know Y blocks

I just dont want to take one to just any machine shop to get work done since most use sbc way of thinking when doing their work,I think I found one but I want to hear from others that are in Ohio to see who done their machine work and how satisfied they were with what was done before I make a decision.  Since I took the day off of work I was going to local car shops to see who they recommended and one well know shop recommended a machine shop that I had issues with in the past and got a little testy when I mentioned my problem with them in the past,he is very well known and they know better to do bad work for him but I had a issue with the valves on a flathead they done for my dad along with a set of heads for a 351-W I had them do and then they did not mill the head right on a 2.5 GM motor for my mom and now I have a issue with one of the axles they pressed bearings on thats in my 55.  I was going to use the guy who done the 235 thats in my 37 should let lay p/u but he acted like he did not have the time to talk to me when I was last there so I want to try another shop.

Why not give Hills Thunderbirds a call and see who they use for there machine shop work?

They do a lot of restorations on 312 T Birds.They have to use someone.

If you don't mind driving north, Medina Mountain Motors did my 292. They do all kinds of motors and the quality they put out is top-notch. There in Seville ohio

My friend Ed saw this post, and sent me info about a shop he has great satisfaction with.  It's Hart's Machine Service, 106 W. Main St., Cecil, OH 45821.  419-399-5335.  Thanks Ed.  My local macine shop, Bill Smith Motorsports, does not do crankshafts, and he sends all his performance engine cranks to Hart's, even though there are a couple local crank grinding shops.  I wish Bill had a crank grinder, his work is impeccible.

Depending upon where you’re at, CAMS (Canton Automotive Machine Service) in Canton Ohio is also another option.  Just give Roger Decker there a call as he’s familiar with the Y and leans heavily towards Ford engine performance in general.

I'll Second Ted's recommendation. Roger has done the machine work and balancing of several Y-Blocks and a French Flathead for me. Top Notch work. I have the 312 for my Ranchero at C.A.M.S. now. I talked him into making a deck (torque) plate for Ys and it should be ready right about now. He also has a dynamometer. He's a Ford man to the bone!

Problem with most machine shops around here is they act like every motor is a sbc.

Roger has been around since wheels were invented. ( I grew up in the Canton area) He also was involved with Speedsmith on the original aluminum CYL heads. Good people, excellent machine shop. The man has good running Fords all over Northern Ohio.
