What intake and carb?  This will make a difference on the distributor advance curve setup.

HI Ted;;   Thanks for responce;;    Blue Thunder Man.---  Holley double pumper, modified by Ted Fleetwood,,   (NASCAR  carb builder)  650 cfm.  Carb made  a great difference!!  Ted, also have Sanderson Headers, Engle Cam, John"s modified G heads.  Kinda thinking-- blue bushing-- with small silver springs.   Again  Many Thanks, not for just my questions, but for everyday help, to everyone. really appreciate the sharing on this site.  God Bless All    Eddie

I tried silver springs and was not impressed, went back to blue springs and liked the better response and overall performance.Just my opinion.Jim

With the Holley carb, a blue and light silver spring combination with the silver bushing would be a good starting point.  If you had a Demon carb, then a blue bushing with the two light blue springs would more applicable.  The amount of vacuum advance being pulled in is also a player which can dictate a different curve combination.  My EMC engine on the other hand liked a short and lazy curve meaning lots of initial but final timing not being in until after 3750 rpms which was a black bushing with the two heavy silver springs but there's no vacuum advance being employed on that engine.

My 312 has the stock 9425B intake, ported and polished C heads, and a mild cam. I went with a mechanical advance dual point dizzy. My spring colors are different (Mallory) but the bottom line is that mine also preferred a lot of advance early.
