In reading the posts about intakes,I notice a lot of people who,like me are on very limited budgets and looking for ways to improve performance and drivability of the older Y-block powered cars and trucks.A very low-cost mod most people never think about is one of the later Y-block 2 barrel intakes,which are plentiful and cheap.Through the 60's and 70's Ford built millions of very good 2 barrel carbs that are almost worthless at a junkyard.Add a 57-up distributor with an electronic conversion and for very little cost this mod makes a 292 or 272 run very well.

Hello Paul! I agree with you.The mid 60's 2bbl were simple and dependable(and cheap) to buy now.However when I pull the air cleaner off mine to show the late 4bbl Holley it does look impressive.

True! But that Holley 500CFM competition 2bbl looks pretty good too. And considering the recommended CFM for the medium build Y is in the 500CFM range it should run as well also. Chuck in NH

And a good thought.  People are probably tired of hearing it but I like the 2100s a lot.  Possibilities include the original 1.02 venturi, but also the 1.08 and 1.14 models for the 292s.  Throttle response is great and mileage is probably as good as a carb can give.  Down side is for those who like to wind the engines, as the 1.02 gives up at close to 4000, and the 1.14 4500.  Price of a nice rebuilt carb runs between 110 and 150.

If searching a junkyard or swap meet, look for something before 1972, preferrably before 1970.  Venturi size is cast into the aluminum body inside a circle,.98, 1.01, 1.02, 1.08, 1.14, 1.21, or 1.23.  Stay away from the two smallest and largest sizes.
