As you know I've been working on an idea to get the Northeast Y-Block guys togather at Oxford Plains dragway in Oxford Plains, Maine on June 24th 2007.  I've just been informed of another show in Canterbury, New Hampshire the same date called "Thunderama 2007". Its run by a T-Bird club but is open to all cars. I've contacted the president of the club to see if they can accomodate us as a seperate group.

I need to have an idea of possible attendance, at either location, and your preference of the two (or another selection). Please respond! Chuck in NH

Come on guys, Lets get some interest here!  2 votes?????   How do we reach out?  Even if it remotely possible to make it there, vote anyway and make plans later if you can.  My wife is a schoool teacher & that it is her first weekend off, but she would definately accompany me to something like this.  I know there are a lot of y-blockers out there and we all should try to get together  and have some fun & show the classic car world that we are here and are very proud to be part of something so special!!!        Mike

I definately go to Oxford each show shine and drags.

I'm quite disapointed in the response. I like drags but I think I'll try Canterbury unless we are overrun with votes in the next few weeks. At least I tried! Chuck

I'll go to either show, but my concern with the t-bird show is: if these guys are anything like the connecticut t-bird club, we'll be shoved in some remote corner by the prima donnas and treated like red-headed step-children for daring to defile "their" engines.
By MoonShadow - 18 Years Ago
I talked to the president of the Club. They are a local club, split off from T-Birds International. No meeting, no dues just have fun. Their show is open to cars other than T-Birds this year and he said they would be glad to have us. As far as being presented in the front row I really don't care. If we can all group togather it will give us a better oportunity to meet and discuss New England Y-Block ideas.

I dont mind the purist! Actually we are too in a way since we only go for Y-Block power. Anyway from my conversation I don't expect to be met that way. There are always a few "bad apples" though. They are usually easy to ignore. Chuck

Don't get me wrong, Chuck. I dont expect to have us show up & be treated like royalty. I've just had a few run-ins with the local t-bird club, and they've all left a bad impression. These guys were way beyond rude. I'm sure that's left me a little wary of t-bird clubs in general.

I trust your opinion of the folks you spoke with, and I'm looking forward to going to either show. It would be great to have a Y-block meet for us east coast guys!

When is this poll over with?  I would like to make plans as this is only little more than a month away.  I live 4 hrs away and would make reservations at a motel, etc.  Got my mercomatic rebuilt so I should be set to go, Just empty the wallet for that golden petro of the Bush oil magnate era!   Hope to see you there, Wherever!       Mike

I've decided to go to the NH meet. It's a day drive for me and I'll trip up early. Anyone have a Y-Block banner we could use? Chuck

New England's Vintage Thunderbird Club will be hosting the 14th annual Thunderama at Canterbury Shaker Village in Canterbury, NH. A Thunderbird Concours with "fun" judging will be held in addition to an All Makes Vehicle Show at the same time.

The event will be held on June 24, 2007 on the village green of the Shaker Museum. This location is just 20 minutes north of Concord, NH which has many attractions nearby. It is also only a 45 minute drive to the NH seacoast and the Kittery malls.

This will be the largest gathering of Thunderbirds in the northeast for 2007. The area will hold upwards of 250 cars. The Shaker Museum will provide 2 free tickets (a $30 value) to their museum that encompasses 634 acres with over 25 buildings to tour. The Shaker Table Restaurant, Summer Kitchen and an outdoor grill are availabe for food.
I talked to the local president, Don Seymour, and he said we would be welcome. He will try to provide us with a Y-Blocks Forever parking area.

My intent is to meet with other Y's guys from New England and see if we can host our own annual event up this way. Maybe New England dragway or something like that. Gotta see who will show up first! Bring all your Y-Block friends! Chuck in NH

After pushing for support for this Canterbury meet, I myself am going to have to cancel out as I have had an unfortunate accident with my merc and it is in the shop & will be there for a few weeks. My hood had come up on me doing about 55mph and it buckled in two places, and actually went off sideways and hit the passenger fender.  The safety catch spring had broke.  I had worked on one of the hinges knowing it was bad, but lived with it not letting anyone open the hood but myself.

Now with having this work done I've decided to replace both hinges, which I've located, so it will be in the shop longer.

I do feel fortunate that I was able to control the car to a stop without hitting anything.

Again I am sorry I can't make it as I was definatley looking forward to it. Hopefully we can meet at another one someday.    Mike

Tom, I have never been to RAVE but had heard about it. I will definatly think about it as it not that far away. I like the shows with the flea markets & tools & trinkets.   Have fun at Canterbury!     Mike

Not like the Merc wouldn't look great hoodless!Tongue Chuck

Chuck,

Great job on the Y gathering, although I live in ME I am back in Lons neck of the woods, Aussieland. I am due home late the 23rd and I will be some jetlagged by then so I am not sure if I will make it anywhere. But we can still meet some evening drags at one of these local venues.

Marv,

I was thinking the same thing as Chuck, Just leave the hood home.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there sunday. I know it's far off yet, but the weather looks like it'll be good. I should roll in sometime around 10AM. Mike, I agree with these guys. Leave the hood home & go !!

Its kinda of too late at this point in time as the car is in the shop & even the fenders are coming off to change those hinges!  We were really looking forward to this show as we were booked at the Margate in Laconia and I had to cancel that.  Yea I probably should have held off and drove it over like it was but I guess if you can get er in the shop that quick you'd better take it.

I'm doing a brake job on the 64 Gal conv so  can get that back on the road-needs inspection! Hard to keep up.  Also working on my boat so I can get that back in the water after some time.   * note* I retired early & went into business for myself and now have less time than ever!

Anyhow, Have fun at the show!      NOTHIN SOUNDS LIKE A "Y"

Well the first Y-Blocks Forever New England Mini meet is now history. Decent turnout from New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont and Conneticut! Also some really nice Y-Blocks, mostly in T-Birds but there were several Merc's and one really nice 56 Victoria! We did a lot of talking, passing around of cards and selling of the web site and the group. Thanks to Marc, Tom, Peggy Sue (purple and white Crown 50's style) and their families and friends for making this a good time. The traveling banner was prominently displayed and received a lot of comments! Pictures will be posted soon (right Marc??).

Consensus seems to be a meet next summer at New England Dragway in Epsom, New Hampshire. Sort of central to the north east coast. There is a nostalgia meet there each year put on by "Rons Toy Shop" in Manchester. I'll talk to them about giving us a space. As far as organizing I'll see how it grows. We may just do a mini meet or a East Coast Y-Block Nationals. It all depends on interest and who can make it! Love to see some of the racers come to our neck of the wood.

Thanks to all for your support and ideas! See you in Columbus! Chuck in NH

Chuck, you pretty much summed it up. Nice cars, good people, great conversation, and $6 cheeseburgers! It was good to see you again, and also nice meeting Tom & Peggy Sue. I just got in (bumper to bumper traffic the whole way!), so after a little supper, I'll post the pics.
