Just watched the "Wally buys his first car" episode again ($180 '53 scrub). According to the script, Ward gives his approval because it was safe & in good mechanical condition. In REAL life, most fathers selecting cars for their teenage sons likely picked the stovebolt since they knew it couldn't get out of it's own way (my mother had one). Right before that episode was filmed, I paid $200 for a stick-shift '54 239 Ford hardtop that would have run circles around it! Ran it flat out at 110 for nearly an hour (until a couple pushrods finally popped out and stranded us).

In several episodes you can see Ward Cleaver pulling into the driveway in a '57 Ford sedan.

Went to Universal Studios this weekend and saw Norman Bates car.  
Also saw this, MEL powered no doubt.

See Norman wasn't all bad! Is the yellow touring car in the collective picture a Chrysler by any chance? Also, didn't Eddie Haskell have a roadster later on in Beaver? Chuck in NH

Loved the episode when Wally & Eddie tied a chain to the rear axle of Lumpy's 40 Ford. My first view of an enclosed driveshaft configuration.

lumpy drove a 40 ford conver. eddie drove a 40 chev. and wally drove a 53 chev. (at least in couple episodes, i recall)
