charliemccraney (3/17/2010) When is st patty's day?Charlie, i believe it to be 17th march, we had ours yesterday. The 2 irish prisoners break out of their cells at night and make it to the outer wall, Paddi says to shamus; how are we going to get over the wall? shamus replies; ive got this torch so i,ll shine a path of light up to the top of wall and you climb up on it and get over the wall! AH! paddi replies; how do i know you wont turn it off when i,m half way up??

Hmm. The 17th is today. I guess I need to turn on the tv, read a paper, or look at a calendar now and then.

Yeah, today's the day. I'm not officially Irish (although isn't everyone Irish on St. Paddy's day). Just had a lunch of Corned Beef and Cabbage (had to go to the local Piccadilly Cafeteria), not available to every block like when I lived in Albany NY in the mid-80's. Guess I'll try the local Irish-type pub tonight (if I can get in the door and past the smoke) for a few Harp's while my wife sips on a Black and Tan. Happy Paddy's day to all.

I am not much on saying things like, "I am Irish-American" etc. etc....just proud to be American at all. But, the Jessup name used to be Jessop, and all of my kinfolk came from the Irish hills on top of a place called "Jessop Mountain." Rough bunch! They came over to America just a bit before the pilgrims made their landing, but the Jessop's settled in western North Carolina way back then....and many of them remain there now! One of them obviously changed our name to have a "u" instead of an "o", and come to find out, we actually had a Revolutionary War minuteman in the line... My dad used to wear this shirt that said, "You can always tell and Irish man, but you can't tell 'em much!" Great stuff...

My Sir name is of French origin, but my Mother was a Dougherty. One Grandmother was a McGinnis & a G.G. Grandmother was a Kelly & another a Breen. Which is a contraction of O'Brian. We also found out one of my Irish ancestors was probably a bigamist.. but I wont' go into that. Hope everyone had a great St. Pat's Day. My Wife made Irish coffees for us after supper...

Yes, Aussiebill -- I got my great grandpa's banjo when he passed away. Now, if I could only learn to play it!! Your a Lucky man Dan.. My Granda's Banjo went to my irresponsible blackheart drunkard of an Aunt and she pawned it off years ago.. Still trying to find out where his fiddle went to after he passed.. Oh and Tim, about the red hair.. Here's a fun trivia fact that is totally useless but i managed to remember for some reason.. The highest concentration of "red-heads" as measured by percentage of the population, is actually Scotland.. Again why i remembered that I have no clue
