all the plugs on one side (passenger- 1,2,3,4) have a nice light brown color to them (= correct color, burning fuel as should)

all the plugs on the other side (driver-5,6,7,8) have a slight oily, gray/black look to the electrodes...

any ideas??

thanks,Mark

Mark.  Have you performed a compression check?  This initially sounds like one side of the engine is running more compression than the other.  Do the cylinder heads have the same casting number?  Milled the same?  Another possibility is a vacuum leak at the intake manifold on just one side of the engine.  And yet another possibility are valve guides that are worn more on one head than the other.  Same heat range and brand of spark plugs in both heads?

-newly rebuilt engine... less than 500 mi on it so far...

-hardened seats installed

-no apparently leaks that I can determine

-8 identical plugs

-no compression check done yet... sounds like this should be me next step...
