HI Everyone.

I hope someone can help me out here. I installed a timing cover on my rebuilt 292 long block only to find out that I did not have the correct one for a front motor mount on my 56 F100. Luckily Charlie had one for sale and sent it over to me and It fit perfect ( casting number is EBV 6059-D) and when I I went to install the water pump (which fit on the other timing chain cover) It did not fit, the impeller side of the pump is to large to fit in the recessed area of the timing cover. Does anyone have a answer to this? Is there two different water pumps, Does any one know where I can find a correct one. Is the timing chain cover OK?

This is the last piece I need to complete assembly on the new motor.

Thanks

Dave

The cover is probably ok. There were smaller water pumps on the earlier Ys.

Thats great to hear the cover is correct. Do you know where I can get the proper sized water pump?

Thanks

Dave might be idea to give folks an idea of size of impeller you have so smaller diameter pump can be identified.

the 54 was different.you need to get a newer one.timing cover that is.im not even sure your fuel pump will fit.

You need an EBV-G. There is also a later one that will work C2TE I think.

I need the small one for a customer if you want to sell it.

It seems like there are at least 3 water pumps for Y's.  The above mentioned '54 which seems to have a different flange and impeller is one.  Then there are 2 pumps that will bolt on to the later timing chain covers but have different casting and shaft diameter.  The heavy duty truck pump had a thicker shaft,  bigger bearings and cast on gussets on the supporting snout.  The pass car pully will not fit over the shaft.

The HD truck is the new one.  The rusty one is the pass car, light truck and T bird pump, these apps are interchangable.

FYI

Here are the dimensions from the two timing covers I have.

EBV 6059-D (the one that is giving me the problems)

Water pump opening:diameter 4 3/4" (121 mm)

depth +/- 7/8" on edge

+/- 3/4" at center

ECG 6059-B

Water pump opening:diameter 5 7/16 inches (138 mm)

depth +/- 3/4" on edge

+/- 7/8" at center

Sorry I am not more exact but I only have a metric caliper measuring tool and a old tape with inches and feet.

The Water pump I have the impeller has a diameter of 4 3/4" (120 mm). fits the ECG-B timing cover

The 1954 Y-Block water pumps are smaller overall than the ones available starting in 1955.  As a result the 1954 EBV timing covers are specific to those smaller sized water pumps and the fuel pump is also different for these covers.  The later model ECG timing cover is the recommended cover for a most Y builds as the water pumps and fuel pumps for these are the ones that are in abundance and easier to find.

A timing cover change will fix you up.

The later water pumps are still available from NAPA.
