Inexpensive chinese mini dial test indicator I bought came with an official-looking "certificate of accuracy". Finally got around to checking it against known-good dial indicator & feeler gauges. It's off by .003"

I don't doubt that it's accurate... in relation to the in-house, equal quality Chinese checking tool.

I use nothing but made in Germany or made in Switzerland measuring instruments. I don't think the American names we used to swear by such as Starret are what they used to be. I have picked up some like Compac, Interapid, Mahr and Tesa instruments on eBay lately for a fraction of what they cost 5 years ago. I even bought a Noga magnetic holder for the opening bid of $10. I guess no one had ever heard the name.

OK, Ken... now you're going to have to show the rest of us... oh, I don't know... maybe five of your "best buys"... "they don't make 'em like they used to" American tools...!!

I'm not sure just what you are asking for, but here is a photo of a few of the things that are still in my desk that I haven't gotten around to take out to the shop. The tube mike is Starrett, but I would guess it to be 30 years old. Before China ever thought of copying our stuff. I really like the Noga holder. Its made in Isreal. One of the guys that works for us part time has one. I kept doing a search for Noga, and sure enough, one finally came up.
