There was a 292 out of a 63 one ton for sale, so I decided to check it out.  I am glad I did.  The owner before had put a set of G heads on the 63 block (C2AE).  The engine was complete, turns and I am happy for only $150.  Any other good finds from you all?

Sounds like a great find, might even have steel crank????

Idaho that's a nice score.. I've had a couple of good finds as pertaining to Y's.. The first Y i got (the one that led me to this site after trying to dig up info about them, cause i didn't know a thing about them) was nearly complete from intake manifold to pan and even had the bell and trans and i got it for $20.. Then i traded a set of Hooker Fenderwell headers for an FE for another near complete Y block.. The good scores are out there my friends..

the best deal i got was over 20 years ago.i got a rebuilt 272 for 10.00 at the local scrap metal yard.0 miles.it had been bored .030 at the local school and mounted on an engine stand and the students used it for tune up training.when it became out dated they scraped it.i went to the school so i spotted it on the scrap pile.

Is that your two cents worth?

No steel crank.

This past summer I got a 292 for taking it out of a pickup.  It is a '55 engine, but it does have an ECZ-B intake on it.

I spoke to a Hot Rodder about 3 weeks ago .Someone offered him a Y-block for his new project ( 32 coupe ).He took it .He wasn't sure what size it was ,but it had Thunderbird valve covers and a strange looking air cleaner with  2 stranger looking 4bbl carbs ???? It also had all the linkage for the carbs as well .Louie  thought it might be worth something when a guy offered him $1000 for the carbs and air cleaner ???? I told him it was an e-code .That didn't mean much to him ??? He sure was glad he only paid $700.oo for it .Some guys have all the luck .

Don't forget to check out the old boats! My best deal was a few years ago. A friend at the local parts shop heard about some Y-Block engines that were in an old boat. I contacted the owner and went to look. Sure enough they were Ford Interceptors. Was a little messy to get to as only 1/2 of the boat was left! Little work with a sawsall and a clean up of YEARS of crud deposits and there they were. When I got them home I found one was a factory rebuilt 292 that only had about 50 hours of running on it. The other was a 312. Both had ECZ-G heads and were complete including 1.54 rockers. Price? Free if I pulled them myself! I sold the transmissions and boat motor parts on EBAY for enough to rebuild the 312. Not the score of a life time but it sure worked for me. Chuck in NH

I won a tool on Ebay today which I think I did well on.I saw one go for over $100.00 a few weeks ago from a seller in Australia.Should be handy when I want to retorque the cylinder heads without removing exhaust manifolds.Item # 150434701188.Did I do good or not?
By 46yblock - 15 Years Ago
My recent deal was a rebuilt set of uninstalled 113 heads.  They had new hardened exhaust seats with stainless ex. valves.  The plan is to now put in intake seats with stainless valves.  Picked up locally with some luck, because they werent advertised anywhere Tongue .

Also, a friend gave me a 292.  It had a recent bottom end rebuild and looks like with relatively minor effort will go back together for another 100 thousand.

I was given / inherited a 1957 T-Bird,  it has a 312 V8 4V in it.  Does that count?

Yeah, I know, but I had to brag a little.

Yeah...I found my current ride in a farmer's field in Fairfield, Idaho a few years back. I haven't seen very many Customline Victoria's on the road so she really caught my eye. She was all complete with a running 292 and 3 speed with OD. Even all the trim was there. I thought she was a really rare find. Rono

not much found, but here goes...

btw, this was son's first trip "junk-yarding"... been wanting to go since he was about 10... last month he turned 15!

found and bought:

-54 Merc dash control knobs/buttons (4), top of the control pod from same dash, inside A-pillar trim pieces from same, turn signal lever from same

-cool, authentic Edelbrock air cleaner lid, complete with the all-the-rage- "patina"

-glove box lid for a 59 Ford s/w

-collection of cig lighters (son's newest collection)

found but left where it was:

-59 Ford s/w, fairly trashed but with 292 (probably)

-54 Merc, w/teapot-topped engine

-54 Ford, w/engine

-all the 80's-2000's made mostly of plastic

try finding all this treasure in a "farmer's field"!

Today I won a NIB Pertronix Ignitor II, for 57-74 dist.  $19 and shipping.  The listing was very poorly done.  No one could find it!

I went today with a friend of mine to the home his long time buddy and Ford guy. Showed him my 56 and told him of my plans for it. He gave me a set of G heads, aluminum t-housing and pulley, several Y-block books and an original dealer brochure. Still haven't managed to get the smile off my face!! See my other post for pictures of his shop, I'm so envious. Mike

YellowWing, you have to be kidding me!!!  Y Parts down here in Australia are as rare as rocking horse s*#t!!!   I would give my eye teeth for a set of those heads and 1.54 rockers to boost up my old trusty 272!!   I couldn't win an arguement with a deaf mute!

Out here in California my son and I have come across quit a few good scores.we recently found a 292 block with 312 crank, all machine work recent and good work.It had set of 113 heads. It had bad cam with no other issues.I ended up doing some mild port work and a new ISKY cam and away we went.Runs great after 10,000 miles of use. My son bought 60 f100 with a C1AE block with steel crank. All machine was recent and had never been fired.I found out there were some assemby errors and corrected them.We took the small valve heads off and replaced them with some G heads and a RPM300 cam .Instant HOT ROD!And the truck cost 900 dollars! There always seems to be one or two in the local junk yards. They seem to be crushing them fast.

It's not an expression in this context. I quite literally found a penny. It was on the road under my mail box.

I've been pretty busy lately, and unfortunately have not gotten to do too much with any Y block. The new garage is almost there. Should get electric within 2 weeks.

In the meantime, take a look at what I scored at church last night!!! Some of y'all know that I am a pastor at an independent Baptist Church here in Winchester, VA. The people of the church surprised me on Sunday night after the service when an announcement was made about the time I was going to close in prayer.

Then, four of our deacons went to the large closet and wheeled out this huge 60 gallon compressor. "Put it in your new garage!" the church said. To which I gave everyone a good, hearty "thank you" and made plans to haul it out to the house. This is a picture of me with the compressor - it was still in the auditorium - you can see the front pew sticking out on the left hand side of the photo!

Dan, I got to come down some Sunday again.Need a tour of the new garage.
By Daniel Jessup - 15 Years Ago
Dennis, the invitation is always open! My schedule should improve greatly once the school year is through. By the time the first week of June is here, I should be able to have a typical 40 hour work week...haven't seen that in a while. Tongue

That garage is 24x40 and already full. I will have to take some photos w00t

I founded smoke in my T-Bird's relay module...

How the h*ll I get all those smoke back to the box, so I can start my engine again!

I founded also two black stripes beneath my Ford...

Your relay is leaking. You'll have to replace or repair that relay to keep the smoke inside. It replenishes itself; Once you get the relay fixed it will refill the smoke on its own.

They all say it's electrons that make electronics work. It's not. It's smoke. When have you ever seen electrons leak from a circuit? I never have but I've seen plenty of smoke.
By texasmark1 - 15 Years Ago
every time my relay leaks, I go down to the local hometown airport, grab a few feet of flightline, wind it around the relay, and I'm good to go!

ok, this thread has now been officially hijacked!

I found a nice clean $5.00 bill this morning in my washing machine as I was moving my laundry from the washer to the dryer. Boy that tasted good.

Picked up a big base manifold, 2 sets of rocker arms, both ratios, 2 valve covers, 2 barrel manifold w/carb,a dampener and a flat top 4 barrel carb. this stuff was in the trunk of an old Vicky' rod.  Happened on it 1 day before it was loaded out for China.
By 55Birdman - 15 Years Ago
Make sure you get flightline cleaned in propwash or it wont work.
By Flying Jester - 15 Years Ago
I can get the last olive out of a jar with one finger, and leave the pimento behind!

I got a complete 64 F-100 with a built 292, all that was needed was glass, new paint, and the time to put all the pieces back together. $400! And the car for the engine, a 63 Fairlane that needs body work, $100! Not bad, considering I'm calling in a favor to get the paint, already have a 223 I6 for the truck, and can do the body work my self. Two soon to be beautiful Ford cars, for only $500...all I need now is all the time to finish them.

I can also light a cigarette by snapping my fingers on the head of a match.
By texasmark1 - 15 Years Ago
Propwash... hey, maybe that should be included in my post requesting home remedies for stuff like paint stripper and rust removal tricks!!

Yep, I'm going down to the local muni airport tomorrow and gettin' me a 5 gallon bucket of propwash...

will post the results soon...

I have a double throwdown wang-danger and a johnson rod or two that really need attention!

I got my 99% complete 55 Mercury Monterey for getting an RV to run and $200! The only thing missing on my car was the fender skirts. It still has the black california plate and a yellow california plate. Took a few bucks in basics to get it running but she is alive now! BigGrin

Don't really know how good a deal it is yet, but I just picked up a 50 Ford Tudor headed to the salvage yard...I hate seeing cars crushed when they have a ton of good parts or lots of potential. This one is crispy, but it has a complete flathead, drivetrain, all interior pieces, etc. I paid $300 to save it from a guy that was hauling it down the road. If anybody needs anything, let me know...

Last week I found three y-blocks, one 312 and two 292's. They belonged to Jack Roush back in the day. The 312 and one 292 are complete, the other 292 is missing the heads and intake. The complete 292 has ECZ-G heads and a ECZ-B intake. I got all three y-blocks for a total of $150.00. I'm thinking about parting out the 292's(they have cracked pistons. The 312 turns over and I will be rebuilding it.

To me that was the find of decade.
