Man I am glad you guys are here. I am setting up my Dove rocker arms and noticed two of the stock rocker arm pedestal are open in the bolt holes mid way in the shafts hole, the other six are not.
I assume the open ones goes on one end, but which one and why is it like that. And yes it takes some time to get the Dove rockers set up.

If I understand your question correctly, the open holes are not a problem and don't need to go in any specific location. The stands are castings and not all of them are exactly the same.

I think I figured this out, the one pedestal has the opening so it slightly crushes on the rocker shaft keeping it located. Does not seem to matter where it is located.

Ted,
Thank you, I did receive a diagram but it was not in this detail. Also the shims supplied were all .120 and the id was a bit large at .890. I was trying figure out why I could not get it set up right. Any idea on geting correct shims or should I call Dove.

To my knowledge, Dove only supplies the shims you received.
I’ve fine tuned the rocker spacing by using valve spring shims with the inner diameter being slightly larger than that of the shafts.
These are available from most shops that perform cylinder head work or can be ordered from a automotive machine supply warehouse.
If you use the original rocker shaft springs instead of the spacer kit, then some of the shims are not necessarily required in the thicknesses stated but some kind of shim is still required for the springs to rest upon without fear of any chaffing of the aluminum taking place. If using the spacers, be sure to leave some side clearance for heat expansion purposes.
