According to the Eickman book Ford cross drilled till 56.

Did Ford do any crossdrilling of cams after 56?

Some of the last Y-Blocks had cross drilled cams. Around 64 Ford used cam # CAB-X.  It was cross drilled and used cast lifters with FoMoCo on the back.

The replacement cams available today are copy of this cam only the new ones have groove.

just to add something to that the last cam i got had both.crossed andgrooved.
