Thanks for the help the other day guys on the types of pointless distributors available. If I go with Pertronix and buy a new distributor, I was told it would have to be a 1957 distributor. Is this right.

If you want the advantage of vacuum and centrifugal advance you need one for a 57+ Ford Y-block.If you go to your local parts store to order one ask for one for a 1964 Ford F100 with 292.This was the last year the 292 was used in the US and as far as I know is the only one your parts guy will still find listed.Again you need a cap and rotor for 57-74 Ford(all the same) if the rebuilt does not come with one.I have heard Autozone has a good price although you should check around and see who will give you best price.Same with the Pertronix.Make sure the seller is a legitimate Pertronix dealer in case you run into a warranty need.

If you do go to Autozone they're around $60 rebuilt. I would suggest you take the unit apart and use lighter springs and limit the advance to something around 12 degrees. You can the use 10 or 12 degrees initial advance. You'll like it.Tongue
