Just wanted to say a word of condolence to all of you out there who have lost a loved one or a friend that gave his life while serving our country. Yesterday, at our morning church service, we had a time of remembrance and reflection. Our pastor felt led to honor each active/retired duty personnel during the service, too. We had each one of them (aobut 35-40 men and women) come to the front of our auditorium while everyone else went by and thanked them for their service. Preacher also felt led to show a video including Douglas MacArthur's famous "Duty, Honor, Country" speech that he gave during his farwell address to West Point back in the early 60's. There wasn't a dry eye in the place by the time we were finished.

Unfortunately, most of our country now views Memorial Day as a time to have cookouts and just another day off. I am not against those things, but I do want each one of you active/retired duty military to know that we appreciate your efforts and your sacrifices too. While we honor our country's fallen heroes, let us also take the time to remember you who are still alive while we have the opportunity.

My dad served during Vietnam (like many of you fellas), and I was born overseas during one of his tours. Years later, pops was the one that introduced me to the Y block!

That was real decent of your pastor to do that. I imagine most of the vets would feel a bit embarassed along with feeling proud. I know I would have. Thanks

I'll second those comments. We had a memorial at church as well. Reading off the names of the fallen was very moving. Being a disabled  Viet-Nam Vet its always a special moment for me when Memorial Day comes. Thanks to those who defended our country . Earl Dagenhart

Thank you to all the Y-Block vets.

Let us pray for those who are serving now, thanks to all who have served, and remember the fallen ones, those who gave their life so that we can live ours in freedom.

God bless America.

Y-Guys:      A few weeks ago, I took my 85 yr old uncle

on one of the "Honor Flights" to D.C. to see the W.W.II

memorial. When we arrived back to our home airport

(B'ham Al) about 9 p.m., on a friday nite, there was a crowd

of about 250, cheering, clapping, and telling the Vets

how much they were appreciated for the job they did.

One of the Vets, was a 95 yr old that pushed!

his wheelchair all day, he said he brought it   to help anyone

     that might need it!!!

As we were about to leave the airport, another

Vet (with tears in his eyes), mentioned to me that No-One

had ever "thanked" him or told him they were proud of him

     and his fellow soldiers.

Thanks to all who served!  Including my Father William James McMaster USN CPO WWII.

We will be headed to Porterville for their Memorial Day service at Hillcrest Cemetery, it's very patriotic and a breath of fresh air in the world of today.

Thanx Dan, very moving, I've been called a fool for enlisting in 65 more than I've ever been praised, it's great to see some people still remember and care. Gary

I know there will be BBQs also but I sure do like small town patriotism.  Porterville also has the distinction of having more men per capita lost in Vietnam than any other town in the US, they feel very stongly about their Vets. Smile

I just love a marching band!  God Bless John Philip Souza!

Todays kids, the ones I've met anyway, who are military are some amazing youngsters. These kids, especially the Navy and Air Force guys are scary bright. We used to kid the Army and the leathernecks while I was in the Navy (62-66), but I gotta tell you, if I'm ever in a fight I want one of those kids on my side. One's all you'd need. Congradulations and Thank you.Wink

I just watched a program on PBS that brings home what Memorial Day is really all about. The program visited all the American war dead cemeteries in 8 foreign counties. There are graves of  125,000 American men and women  in those cemeteries. These men and women and all the others who died for not only our freedom, but the freedom of millions of people all around the world are the real reason for Memorial Day.When I was stationed in Europe,I visited the American cemetery at Verdun,France. That was one of the most somber and emotional experiences of my life. The whole world owes an enormous debt to all who have served in our Military, but especially to those who gave all in the defense of freedom.

Although Monday was the US's Memorial Day, Let's not forget the Canadians, Aussies and Brits who were right there with us EVERY time. Hard to find friends who will do that. Salute.
