oil filter adapter installation

I was wondering if anybody has ever installed one of these oil filter adapter because I can't get the old fitting to come off of the block.

What's the problem - socket won't grab the nut? If so, grind down the socket so it will grasp better. The top of most sockets are cut so they will go on the bolt head easier.

I had to use a long handled torque wrench to get it off.  It was on extremely tight, even with the long wrench it was tough and I bench press about 400.

The heat/cool cycles really tighten those thing up! If all else fails and the nut gets rounded a good hammer and chisel should break it loose. Is the engine in or out? Chuck in NH

The problem was that there wasn't enough room to get at it and unfortunately some dummy (me) tried to take it off first with some vice grips because he didn't have the right socket.

Long story short I got the right socket, took off the fender and inner fender, and with the grace of God and lots of luck it came off.

Which way should the fitting that screws into the bushing that holds the adapter plate to the block go in?  It appears the nipple on one side is slightly longer than the other.  Should the short side go towards the block?

If there is a difference in the thread lengths on the nipple, then put the short side towards the engine.
