i have a set of the self locking rockers that came on my 63-292 and a set that has the jam nut that came on my 55-272 neither are the larger rockers but is there any benefit of one to the other as i have the ones with the jam nut cleaned assembled and ready to roll ?

Go with the self locking, they are much easier to adjust and a little lighter in weight.

Frequent lash adjustment with the orig. self-locking type often led to worn rocker threads, but oversized parts were also once available to restore lash stability between adjustments. Repros come with an additional jamb nut. If the friction fit is not consistently tight among all rockers, though the added weight is likely not good re: high RPM valve float, and jamb-nut torquing often complicates obtaining a precision lash, at least the lash won't change. I have wondered though if there are any other penalties for the added weight (if high revs are not in your plans)?

I'd go with the jam nut style. I doubt you'll be turning a high enough rpm for the weight savings to be a true benefit.
