Hey Moz! If it slips in drive just run it in reverse.Works in an an upside down country I think!(LOL)Do you think anyone else would notice?

Moz: If it slips in the foward gears, but not in reverse, it may be that the forward clutch is slipping. This could be because the plates are worn out, or a shaft seal is worn out and leaking fluid pressure to the clutch. I assume you've checked the fluid level.

haha mark yeah cant run it in reverse i'll get a sore neck looking backwards john i put 1/4 litre in it last week it never slipped before we put the new front pump seal in it then the auto expert a friend of mine showed me he didnt need the 1/4 inch block to adjust the front band after that it satarted slipping every now & then when hot it doesnt do it all the time though maybe 1or 2 times a week never in the morning only at night when im coming home

Moz: You want me to say the screen needs cleaning, but that is a remote possibility. In reality, you are probably looking at an overhaul. It is possible that when the seal was replaced the converter was not seated properly in the front pump and damaged the pump. Don't ask me how I know this.

If you R&R'd the transmission the rod adjustment could have been knocked off a little. Also you could have dislodged some crud that hung up the valve body temporarily. I doubt it was the converter not seated when installed. This breaks the drive of the pump and you don't go anywhere because there is no pressure. However, taking a while to engage in reverse when cold is a symptom of a loss of fluid pressure when the piston O-rings are cold and contracted. As they warm the swell and seal better. Finally, trans fluid is very detergent and putting new fluid in a warn transmission can "clean" it too much and the clutches start slipping. I hope the rod adjustment fixed your problem. If it was any of the other situations all you can do is drive it unfortunately it will get worse until you need a rebuild.

well 5 days & not once has it done it the tranny was r&r'd 3 1/2 years ago checked the inside & the bands were new pan was clean the control rod is me playing around with it trying to find a happy medium if i take it up to 3 turns the shift point is slightly to high for the heavy traffic to & from work.

Moz, You might want to get the pressure checked when you get a chance. That will tell you what kind of shape the pump's in. Is the 12 at the bottom of an Aussie clock?

frank i been thinking of making up a pressure gauge & the 12 is at the top just upside down

the 12 is sort of like the 120 on the 56 speedo dial so your brain can read it properly
