A couple weeks ago I went up the Interstate 70 miles or so to pick up a $20 292.  It didnt sound good even in the beginning.  The motor had sat outside for so many years the oil pan gradually rusted through and crushed flat.

Got it home and without much excitement wrestled things apart.  There were lots of new additions to the metal salvage pile.  The .040 over B9AE block may be good if it mags OK.

Today while taking a break I disassembled one of the rocker assemblies.  Surprise #1 the shaft was great.  #2 there were 5 1.54 rockers.  #3 all the rockers had nice clean bronze bushings!

It was in Winston Dustin.  The 292 and an SBF had been listed for about a month in Roseburg Craigs list when I saw them.  Figured you had already looked at it and said "Naw".

I recently got a 292 off craigslist that sat in a garage for 40 years and figured it was stuck so yesterday I got around to pulling the plugs and putting some PB blaster in the cylinders and then got the breaker bar and a socket and it turned over, all the plugs looked to be a light tan so it looks like it was running good when pulled so maybe I got a good motor for 100 dollars.

Almost always something good on a $20 engine. Smile  Just last month I had a .060 B9AE block given to me, it had been sitting for 15 years but it still had some good junk in it. Wink

As it turned out all the rockers were 1.54s.  Thought the suffix had to end in B2, but there were some ECG...A2 also.  Compared the rockers with known 1.43 and there isnt a question, high ratio BigGrin .

Today I was getting them and a bunch of other rockers together to go have the valve ends surfaced.  Took apart a dirty assembly to add to the lot and IT had brass busings.  After looking through the other assemblies found its likely match, and sure enough, there is another set of bushed rockers, 1.43.  Hard to believe!
