292fan (7/20/2010)
Hi, I have a 60 Galaxie with the 292 and an Autolite 2 bbl carb. I recently rebuilt it to clean it up a bit on the outside, but it was running fine. I also opened the jets one size also. Everything is great except that when I shut off the engine and let it set for 10 min or so. It won't start until I hold the pedal to the floor(flooded). I looked before I tried to start it once and gas is bublbing out the carb into the throat and intake. I can't really tell which ports it's coming from as there is so much fuel. The float is flat, composite(plastic I think). Are the float height settings for this type the same as the rounded brass one? I have the carb off and I cleaned the anti-siphon holes. Is there anything else i should look for before I reinstall it? The float was not touched or adjusted before the rebuild also. The only numbers stamped are on the base at a mounting boss are 6D_B. Thanks for any advise.....Since the carb is off, go to Autozone and buy a new kit and install. It includes a new powervalve, gaskets, diagram, accelerator pump, instructions and a measuring scale to set the dry float level. 2100s should have new PV and pumps installed about every 3 years given modern day gas, and the fact that many of them sit on unused engines a significant amount each year. Cost isnt very much, not more than $20. Tell them you want a 2V carb kit for a 1965 Mustang. The kits are universal. Make sure the float isnt gas logged. Use a couple cans of carb cleaner and blow everything out well, finishing with lots of compressed air. Dont forget to put the steel/brass/aluminum (type of metal depends on model) weight with ball bearing underneath it, back in place.
It sounds like your model is a 1.14 venturi. The size is cast into the side of the carb body inside circle.
Welcome!
