Just got the CASCO 1" smaller water pump pulley. HAS to be iron! Is it my imagination, or wasn't the original part steel? Much as I'd like the increased pump speed, seems like the extra weight will just cancel out what I saved with Franks' aluminum pump. Pro or Con? Will the added weight/flywheel effect help to stabilize the six-blade clutch fan I'm also installing, or just wear the pump bearings out faster? Have to wonder (if part was custom made for/by them), why iron instead of billet alum.? It wasn't cheap.

A cast iron pulley will probably be heavier than stamped steel, but think about how much heavier the fan clutch and 6 blade fan are than the originals, and they are much farther forward than the pulley. I think your worries about the pulley are unfounded.

John,
Though the clutch housing is aluminum, I HAD overlooked the fact that the combined six-blade assembly would likely give back some of the weight saving realized from the alum. pump.
Was just hoping someone out there might point me to an alternate, lighter weight source for the 1" smaller pulley, before the heavy CASCO example gets installed? I don't think weight only will justify it's return after it has been used/run. Possibly the sturdiness & low cost of iron was their reasoning for material choice (I've seen plenty of warped/bent pulleys over the years). After all, their focus is largely repro/orig. parts, not speed equipment.

How about a small block pulley with an appropriate spacer as Steve (Greenbird) has done? You should find something in no time at a salvage yard.

Take it to a machinist and have 5 or 6 equally spaced "lightening holes" machined into it- I've done it many times. Works well... /Duck
