Truck Engine vs Car Engine, what is the difference

I remember reading somewhere that "nothing on a truck engine (y-block) would work/fit on a car engine."  Is there any truth to that?  Thanks

Gary:    They lied to you...maybe they wanted the truck engine to themselves!!

       As long as it's a 272-292(no312's in trucks) most everything will swap, but there

       are some things that may not work the same...distributor's etc..

            Ask...the guys on this site are an awesome bunch.

Thanks for your input.  Hey, I live just up the road from you in Hoover.  Do you ever attend the Krispy Kreme Cruise-in on first Saturday 8 - 12 AM, Hwy 31 Hoover?  I plan to be there this Saturday and if you come please look me up ..... red/white 55 Ford conv.  You can never know enough Y-blockers. gadams2@bellsouth.net

If they are talking about the Lincoln/truck Y-Block there are certainly some differences.

I was thinking along the same line Tim, he may be talking Lincoln Y's, however there are some other Y's that were specifically truck that were 302-332 configurations, I don't think these were considered the lincoln Y's as those were 317-341 and 368. They were torque monsters for their small size according to my 58 book.

The Ford y's the only difference may be the way it mounts on the bell and front instead of the side and the timing chain cover and pulley may be differnt on some models, the older ones especially.

the truck 279, 317, 52-55 and the 302,332, 56-64 were all lincoln based y's. very few parts interchange.

THE ONLY TWO PARTS FROM A LINCOLN Y-BLOCK THAT WILL FIT A FORD Y-BLOCK ARE THE OIL PUMP AND THE DIST. AND YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE BOTTOM GEAR ON THE DIST. AS THE LINCOLN HAS ONE MORE TOOTH. HOPE THIS HELPS TOM
