The 223 Ford six cylinders use exactly the same spin on oil filter adapter plate arrangement which makes finding these in the wrecking yards somewhat easier. New assemblies are out there but someone else will need to point you to them.
For switching from the cartridge filter to a spin on filter arrangement, simply remove the old nut and flat thin plate and thoroughly remove the old gasket. If using a used spin on adapter plate, insure that the center of the plate sits at least 1/16” above the rest of the plate when the plate is laying on a flat surface. If it’s not slightly raised in the middle, then there’s the possibility it will leak oil. With a new gasket in place on the block, put the adapter plate over it and with ‘TOP’ at the top, and tighten it down with the special hollow stud/nut assembly. Install the new filter and you should be good to go after thoroughly checking for leaks once the engine is running.
