Dad had a rather lengthy surgery yesterday. About an hour longer than planned. The tumor is out and so is most of the inside of his ear. The hole in his skull is patched and the brain was protruding and it too has been removed and the hole sealed. He is in a lot of pain as expected but he is totally deaf in that ear now. He has to have at least one more surgery to try to restore his hearing. He is awake but just barely . They are keeping him doped up why I dont know but I guess its best that way he is staying still and not being uncomfortable. They are letting him come home tomorrow or Sunday. I dont know whats going to happen next or when the surgery is . He wanted to let you guys know that he didnt die and is planning on making it through this madness. I will keep you posted as to his progress. And yes I will sell his bird back to him.

Thanks for the update, we are praying for him and for you the family. I know this is tough, but the good lord can make everything right. The T bird is not important, but I am sure that it is in good hands and hopefully he will be back on the road soon. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the update. It's incomprehensible to me how he can have such an extensive surgery, and be home this weekend. We offered extra prayers yesterday, obviously the good Lord heard us. We will not stop praying.

Thanks again for keeping us posted. Your mother e-mailed me sometime ago before y'all went to Atlanta for the first procedure, and it wasn't too long ago that I sent something out to Earl that I hoped he was able to see before this surgery. I know it's day by day, but we will continue to pray for him and for all of you....sometimes family members take it much harder than those going through the experience. Dan Jessup

I dont understand the quickness of the surgery versus going home either. They do this all the time and I guess they know whats best. I talked to the doctors last night and they said that people do better when they are home. They are in familiar surroundings and just do better. The doctors are confident they "got it all" and they saw no reason for him to stay. Although he doesnt want to go anywhere now. He is in a lot of discomfort but, not being a doctor I dont know what they use to decide things. They simply said he should be able to go home today or in the morning. But we did have some good news though. The costs of the surgeries will be taken care of thru the VA. That is a relief for us all. We are just waiting now for the doctors to come by and see whats what. Dad is awake and talking some so thats an improvement over yesterday. We have a 3 hour trip home and I am not sure how well he will fare that. May take a while to get home.

Thats great news about the VA.Must be a tremendous weight off your families mind.I dont know how I would deal with the surgery your father is going through AND dealing with the financial obligation at the same time. Now Earl can focus on improving and getting better. Please tell him I will be thinking of him.

Dad is going to have to stay in the hospital a while longer. His blood pressure is off the charts. They cant get it to stabilize for some reason. So, he has to stay till they get that issue corrected. A few more days.

After a busy night with doctors and needles and such Dad passed at 3:00AM this morning. Complications from a stroke he had Friday. There wont be a funeral service or anything related to that. Dad thought funerals were one of the worst rituals we as humans have ever done. He is being creamated and his ashes are being distributed over Grandfather mountain. That was one place that gave him peace. Now he shall have it eternally. Earl Dagenhart III

I knew Earl only from this forum. I once had the joy of reading that he agreed with me on something. That was great, since I'm a newbie to actuaqlly messing with Y-Blocks. Even in such a restrict enviroment as a forum, where people are away from each other, I kind of feel that I knew Earl. He responded something to me a few days before going into surgery, and his recovery was a granted thing to me. Unfortunatelly, Earl is no longer with us. This makes us face our own mortality, and rethink some of our actions. one day we are here, talking, making new friends, and the next day... Well, I'm really sad now. Sad for the death of a man, thousands of miles away, in another country. That really brings a good feeling about humanity, if we are capable of such feelings, there are some hope for us after all. I had never lost anybody that I knew, untill now. I'm young, 33 Years old, and I think God spared me of this, untill now. The feeling is terrible, and I can't even begin to imagine how it would be if I had actually spoke to Earl in person, or being a close friend, or a relative.
I ask forgiveness, if sanything I said offended anybody, and would like to send all my feelings to Earl's family now.
Rest in Peace Earl.
