I am going to dive into my y-block powered '56 pickup project soon & am wondering where you source your quality parts.......I imagine that I will need normal tuneup stuff, valve cover gaskets, holley 94 rebuild kit etc......Dennis carpenter is less than an hour from my house, plenty of NAPA's around(I have seen posts about them stocking dizzy's)
thanks

For quality rebuild parts, go with John Mummert, for normal maintenance items, NAPA, Advance, Car Quest or Auto Zone. It sometimes helps to ask for parts for a 1964 292 when dealing with the parts stores. I like to use the online stores and look up my own part numbers, saves time when dealing with a counter person that does not have a clue what a Y block is.

Try Napa first their alot cheaper than Dennis Carpenter and usually a better pooduct and ask for made in USA first and or Mexico, there a whole lot better than the garbage coming out of China.

I have gotten quite a few random parts from rockauto.com They seem to be inexpensive when you order enough stuff and pay a little for shipping, rather than tax. Worth looking into.

I watch for good deals on ebay and pick up parts a few at a time. NOS most times. Most recently picked up a group of 8 (or 10?) excellent new made by Ford lifters for $20. And there was the roller timing chain from Aust. for $89. A Felpro full gasket set less a couple really minor pieces for $30. There was a guy on ebay selling a new cap, rotor, points, and condensor for Y's for months. $8.95, shipping was cheap, nice parts, made in Mexico (beats China). Bought a set just to have on hand. John Mummert is an excellent source. Also Carquest for misc. Dennis Carpenter, Bob Drake, and similar fine outfits are good for hard to find body hardware, rubber seals, and stuff like that.

I've done the same as Mike lately. Stocking up parts for my winter project now. Picked up a set of C2AE rods & good std. 292 crank for 50$ from a guy over on the HAMB. I've found other good bargains on ebay also. Just have to watch what your buying. FORDBARN.com sometimes has y-block parts.

46yblock / Mike . You did extremely well buying those Rollmaster timing chain sets on e-bay . I tracked down 2 of them here in Au early this year through a "Old School " Speed Shop . Thought I had a bargin ??? Only paid $200.00 EACH for them ??????????. They were made not 40 miles from where I live .I will try and find out if they are still going to make them as Rollmaster has been bought out by another company . Lon

Lon: The Rollmaster is still listed on Romac USA site for the yblock. I could not find it on the Aussie site. It is a CS4065 http://www.romacusa.com/ marvModerator edit: added a space behind link to make it 'clickable'.

Lon. When doing your checking, inquire in regards to the timing sets being available in ‘negative’ or undersize sets. I can get the new Rollmaster sets here in the U.S. but they are standard lengths only and are on the loose side when installed. Previously to the company buy out, the sets were available in undersizes in 0.002” increments up to 0.008” shorter than stock. My roadster runs the 0.008” shorter set and I used the 0.006” shorter set on several other engines so the shorter sets definitely are worth having around if they can be sourced.

Lon Lon, it was only luck on the timing chain and lifters. Doubt if it will be repeated. BAD news about the questionable future availability of Rollmasters!

Check http://www.romac.com.au/TCS_Aust_gold.html They are listed under Ford Big Block CS 4060, surprisingly though there are very few parts suppliers in Australia that keep them in stock. The only supplier I have found is Precision International All States Free Call Phone 1300 364 350 and RocKet Industries will get them in for you from the US. They are expensive here though (well over $200) but with the Oz dollar travelling so well they are much cheaper direct from the States. A firm on ebay trading as Falcon Global out of Florida have them listed. And of course I am sure Bill will have the odd set in stock. Regards
