Does anyone know the correct torque down specs for the '57 dual-quad teapots? Any experience with adding more/less gaskets than the 2+spacer the car was built with?

Although I don’t recall ever using a torque wrench on a carb, the by-the-book spec for tightening down the Teapot is 15-18 ft/lbs. Sounds a little stout so I’d err to a reduced value to be on the safe side if actually using a torque wrench for this. I’ve had engines actually run without a vacuum leak with the carb (later model Holleys) simply sitting on the intake but without the nuts being used on the studs. The weight of the carb in these instances simply maintained the seal at the carb base as long as the carb linkage was not hooked up and being used. In regards to stacking carb gaskets, you’ll need to be cautious as the potential for warping the carb base or cracking an ear becomes more likely.

Sounds like an awful lot of pressure. I've heard the number expressed in inch pounds. Any ideas?

The late model Holley reference book I have gives a general torque spec for bolting down the carbs at 60-80 in/lbs. That’s about 5-7 ft/lbs. That sounds better than the Ford manual where the previous values came from.
