Hey guys, after driving for about 2 hours from a great fall car show I noticed and could smell a rad leak. The leak seems to be somewhere in the centre of the rad as it collected in the bottom of the shroud. I took the shroud off. I thought I would visit a rad shop before pulling the rad and of course there was no leak anywhere. The rad hose pressure was rock hard. Any ideas on the leak? It was not leaking at the cap-the tank area was bone dry and I checked for any trail and we saw no trace of a leak or smell. I have since gone to a 7lb rad cap.

Thanks

I've seen situations where loose clamps will leak when cold and stop leaking when warmed up. I guess once everything expands, the leak stops. Check your clamps when the system is cold.

I think the hard hose may indicate the thermostat was slow in opening. That could easily cause some seepage around the clamp areas even if they were reasonably tight. I would watch the thermostat, and of course for any repeat. But I think you are safe. Maybe a new thermostat should be on the winter to do list. Chuck in NH
