Hi   A friend is looking for info on a 55 Crown Vic that he's thinking of buying from an estate sale. Widow has the papers with this vin # V5GW 131971, but doesn't know where to look for the data plate on the car. This is a long distance ,over the phone type of deal. Where is the plate located on 55's?  and does the serial number make sense? Any help would be appreciated.   Barry L

Data or patent plate is installed on the left front body pillar below the upper door hinge opening

The ‘V’ is probably a ‘U’ and denotes a 272.

The ‘5’ denotes 1955.

The ‘G’ denotes the Chicago plant as the assembly plant.

The ‘W’ denotes the body style which is listed as ‘Special Body – Solid Top’.

The ‘131971’ means it was #31,971 as far as consecutive unit numbers go.
