I doubt if anyone is interested, but just in case...  A man outside Medford, OR has a 256 Merc, long block less intake, and I can either give you his phone number, or go over and purchase the engine on your behalf.

Ok, I understand the demand is low, and persons likely are too far away to make shipping affordable.

A friend down in CA said he has been looking for a crankshaft pulley.  This has one and I'll pick it up and send down.  If anyone can use anything else off the engine, then I'll just buy the long block.  Like one of the smaller water pumps?  Front motor mount?  Heads on a restore?  Crank?  Do not expect the selling price to be very high, so neither will the resale of parts.

The owner might want to also advertise elsewhere, due to the nature of this site. Maybe with a Mercury club or in a an old car buy & sell. Hate to see part like that end up scrapped...

Yes I hate to see it scrapped or rust to dust too.  But there is nothing on it that would be useful to me, except maybe the oil pan.  Went over there today and picked up a couple C heads.  Offered $50 for the engine, he wanted $100, and came down to $80, but I passed.  I was thinking that if one of the small water pumps was taken to NAPA, maybe Cardone could rebuild it.  As far as advertising elsewhere, when he showed me a damper with accessory pulley I suggested that he list it on ebay, but dont think he will.  So far it appears that his y-block market is me.

The man's name is Paul.  I wrote about this place a year or so ago.  He is trying to slowly move out many engines and cars which were collected by an old hot rodder who loved Y's.  The original collecter is alive but in chronic bad shape due to a car wreck, unable to drive.  Inside the never to be opened garage is a beautiful (as decribed) 1957 Ranch Wagon with chopped top, 312 or larger engine, 4 or 6 carb intake, narrowed 9 in. with 30 inch tires, tubular front frame.  It is sitting next to a 1950 Merc.  I havent seen either of them and probably wont.  Plan to drive over my truck when the weather is nice and maybe the hotrodder can get out to take a look.
