If you have a factory manual it goes into detail on regulators. However, finding anyone that can do some of the tests is unlikely at this time. You might try disconnecting the battery connection to it & gently clean the points. The manual also recommends checking to ensure the unit is grounded properly. All else failing, some parts outfits still supply regulators & the one I bought a few years ago ( a Wilson) wasn't that expensive. Regulators work hard, so if yours is quite old it may not be possible to adjust it to work properly. It's probably a good idea to test to see if the generator is actually putting out over 12 Volts for a start & is the battery in good condition?

You're going to have to find a real oldtimer to set that up. A bunch of us around the west side of Detroit ended up working at the same auto electric shop at different times. One of the "older" guys mentioned how the "old man" that owned the place would lecture everyone on setting the air gaps on regulators there. Settings even involved air temp. Glad I missed that, the "old man" could be a pain at times. Sure miss him though.
