Hi there, I have a 63 f100 with a 223 3 sp on the tree. I'm in the process of the long journey of restoring the truck. I made a deal last Sat. and aquired a 64 292 that is supposed to have 47000 miles on it. If the motor is ok, I plan to put a 4 barrel carb, or a holley 550 and headers to wake it up alittle, and of course paint it up purty and add some chrome. Should it sound good with those add on's or should alittle bigger cam be another idea? Thanks for any help....Dan

A cam won't hurt but I'd get it running first to make sure there are no other problems. It should provide a noticeable improvement in power over the 223 without adding any of that stuff.

You are also going to need a truck bellhousing (it's not the same as the 223) and you will have to make a mount for the front of the engine at the frame. Assuming the engine came from a truck, it should have everything else that you will need.

Thanks for the info Charlie. I have the bell housing that came with the 292 and the 3 sp tranny. I noticed the mount on the front of the 292 but didnt get a chance to check it out with the truck. What size cam would you recommend for a stock 292?

Does the bell housing look like this?

RE the cam, If you still want to use it as a truck, keep it mild, maybe 210 - 225 degrees duration at .050.

I forgot to add, that when I'm done it wont be used as a truck. just a weekend street rod and maybe show, but not a race truck.
