Has anybody tried the Ford T5 five speed adaptor to the Ford Y-Block.  I would like to replace my original 3 speed with something newer.

Tom, I have sold many T-5 adapters for Y-Blocks and the feedback has been excellent. Our kit requires the use of a 1993 or older T-5 due to input shaft length. The drive shaft will need to be lengthened approx. 3". The front yoke will alos need to be changed along with the clutch disc.

Flywheel, pressure plate, throwout bearing and starter can all be re-used.

I have one of John's adapters mounting my T5.  Also requires a new cross member and a speedometer cable.

This is a VERY worthwhile project!

I used John's T5 adapter in my 57 Ford Custom 300 and although it was a bit tight it worked great. Being vertically challanged I had a problem with the shifter hitting the seat. I ended up using an old Hurst shift handle and drilling the holes in the arm so it tilted forward a bit. With the driveshaft I ended up using one from a 89 Lincoln Towncar and having it shortened 1 inch. A guy from another site mentioned that his bolted right in without shorting it. Its one of the last things you'll need to do so I would measure what you need and go from there. I didn't need a new crossmember or speedo cable on mine but every car will be a bit different. Just cross those bridges when you get there.

I am also using one of John's T-5 adapters with great results. Couldn't be more happy with the product.

I am also using one of John's adapters in my '56 Customline. I love the close ratio shifting of the T-5 with the Hurst Billet Plus shifter. I'm using a shortened LTD driveshaft with a Centerforce clutch and pressure plate.
