I guess the valve covers are OK. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/56-FORD-THUNDERBIRD-312-Y-BLOCK-HOT-RAT-ROD-NR-/180599814069?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a0c9677b5

Wow, people have actually bid it up that high and there's more than 5 days left! It's one of those rare 1956 '58-'59 truck t-bird 292ci 312s with the even rarer rocker oiling system. The crescent on the crank confirms it. Maybe they are bidding on it only for the distributor.
The description says the head numbers are shown but I don't see them.

That's a really rare Holley carb.I've never seen one that looked like that.

The Tach drive distributor might be worth something to a purest, like the red spark plugs.
charliemccraney (12/16/2010) the even rarer rocker oiling system.
Don't see "the even rarer rocker oiling system", tho.

It's only more sarcasm from me. The seller seems to think it's an important piece of info. They all have rocker oiling systems.

It's one of the extremely rare Holley Autolite carburetors. Only 2 were made. It occurred as a result of the great 4 barrel depression of 1957. Holley and Autolite could only make 2 barrels each so they joined forces temporarily to get through the depression and together they produced 2 4 barrel carburetors. Then the depression suddenly ended and the joint venture was terminated.

Oh, I thought you were seeing one of those copper tubing setups that were so popular when your oil passages plugged up with sludge. Over my head I guess
I see he is selling the "proper water pump spacer" in another auction.

From here the block number looks like a 292? any thoughts.

That block could be a 312. Whatever it is, it is not a real '56 Tbird motor. The only part I see that looks Tbird is the distributor.

I remember that 4 barrel depression well.It got so bad that we had to resort to using 3 0r 4 and sometimes 6 2 barrels to keep everything going.

I like the low mileage thermostat housing, without a bypass tube. Also it would be a good bet that the carb is a 1.12 FE carb. Looks like it just came out of the surplus pile.

Shame on you, Tim- you shouldn't make fun of the "challenged" like that...

$1551.00! I think I can scrape together a "real T Bird motor"
Someone either knows something we don't or paid way too much.

I hear what steve is sayin' and I see the dizzies in the neighborhood of 450-600 whether that's fair or not.
One thing I was curious about but didn't check was if it had a genny tbird pan. If so, add another 400 to Steves tally. And dare i say probably worth it. I'm just glad I don't need to buy another one!

If that engine is a 312 and runs good even without a Tbird rear sump the buyer got a real bargin .
