Hi all,

New to posting here, normally on FTE.com.

Basic info: 1954 ford f100 with 239-y currently running a 1964 3-spd. and fenton shifter.

I am being given an old Fordomatic\Cruisomatic trans and was trying to identify it useing the casting numbers on the gear box and bellhsg. I can not see the pan in pictures to get shape but here are the castings...bell=PMB 797-GA    W2     trans=5C-1   WG DIV     N 10

can anyone tell me what vehicle this is from and a better idea of what exactly it is?  Or just point me in the correct direction. I would like to fit this behind my 239 but it may need a rebuild kit, different bell, etc...

thanks for any help offered,   Ed

Ed:

On the driver's side of the trans, aft of the shift levers, should be an oval aluminum tag with numbers and letters.  That is the info needed to ID the trans.  If it came off a Y block, it will fit your 239.  If it came from something else, you will need a Y block bell and flywheel, and possibly converter.

Hey John,  thanks for the reply. I can see the tag in a picture but am told it's worn badly. I will be picking up this trans in a week or so and will know more then.

p.s. my user name changed due to sign-in issue, had to re-register???

thanks,  Ed

I think you might have to find a truck bellhousing to put it in your f100,something about the rear mounts attach to the bellhousing on the trucks

Hey Junkyard,    I currently have a truck bellhousing on the engine...are the manual trans bellhousings different from the auto's? or is it the same housing for both?

I would think you need a truck automatic bell housing. The shape is different because of the converter being in there.

The truck auto bellhousing is different that the std unit. They are hard to come by as not many trucks of that era came equipped with automatics.

If you cant find the truck automatic bellhousing you will have to go to side mounts on the motor and make a crossmember for the rear.
