I just bought the MSD 8383 dist and a MSD coil. In the installation instruction and on the pictures on MSD webb site there is 3 wires, red, black and orange, no problems with that but then there is one green outside the socket and not showed in the instructions or pictures. Das anyone know what the green wire should go to.

I just installed a 8383 on my 56. It only has three wires coming out of the housing red, orange and black. Do you also have a green wire coming out of the distributor housing?

If you look at the instructions for the 8503 289 302 e-curve dist it does have a separate green wire that is for the tach. Could you have the wrong dist? Maybe this is a new addition to the 8383 but I don't know why they would need it.

Does MSD have a tech line? If so, I would call it

I sent a mail to MSD and waiting for answer. Yes, there is a green wire coming out from the dist. I check that one to 302 and this has the same green wire coming out from the same place but what i can se on that dist the cap is mounted with hooks and on mine there is screws. Anyway, it's fits perfect in the engine.

Thank's

BTW. on it's way to Sweden right now is a new gaugh bezel or instrument dash or what ever the right name is from EZ wiring to my 56 Victoria, have anyone tried that one.

We have one MSD for Y too, but it sits outside in the dark and in the snow bank, so I'm not going to check it out BigGrin

I got answer from MSD: The new version modules in the ready to run distributors will have a green wire or lately a grey wire. That is tach output as well as the means to program the rev. limiter found on that module.

So, now i have to buy a tach and put the rev limiter on 8200 rpm.BigGrin
