Does anybody know why Ford used the front motor mount in 1954 and Mercury didn't.. You don't really need to use it do you?

Most people leave them off when reinstalling the motor myself included.Ford discontinued them in 57 I believe.Dont know why they were not on Mercs.

They were called engine steadyrest and useless.

The only reason I am going to put one back on is so the motor looks somewhat original.

The engine mounts used on Y Blocks from factory scare the crap out of me. They do not stop the engine from coming forward and for this reason I would always use the engine steady. Even a slight bump could see the engine fan in the radiator.

The rear gearbox mount is really frightening though it does allow some leniency in installation.

My Mainline ute uses a top loader three speed with the standard mount for that application with the rear cross member redrilled. Still use the front steady though.

It does look a lot neater when they are not installed but I err on the side of safety.
