My 64 292 oil pump is leaking on my garage floor. Anything special I should know before attempting to fix this? It looks to be leaking from the bottom square metal plate with 4 screws? Who makes a new pump, or can it be rebuilt?

I bought a gasket kit from Concours Parts and resealed mine, using guidance from the shop manual, with good results.

Salf100 Sounds like you have the gerotor aluminum body oil pump. These use a rubber "O" ring seal under that flat plate and a paper gasket where the pump bolts to the block. I coat the "O" ring with some light grease prior to installation. As Jeff said, you can buy an aftermarket rebuild kit from one of several catalog companies (MAC's, Obsolete Ford Parts, Concourse Parts, etc.), which will include new gears too. If you are going to pull the cover off, may as well replace the gears too. Rono

The Melling number for the gerotor oil pump rebuild kit is #K-56. Comes with a new O ring for the cover, new gears, new oil relief spring, and O ring for the tube inlet.

So I rebuilt the pump and installed it. Did oil change as well. NOW, its spraying/leaking every time I start it just for a brief second. I cant tell if its coming from the pump/block mounting area of the oil filter. I used a fram PH8A oil filter. Is this the right one? Now I have a stupid question regarding sealant. Should you use a little sealant between the paper gasket (oil pump to block) on the pump? I began thinking that Ive always done this for years just because. No one ever told me why, or if its even needed. The leak couldn't of happened at the worst time to. I had just got the truck all ready to take my 7 month old son on his first ride and bam! Leak. Later that day, I started her up and got underneath to check the leak, but nothing! The filter was tight, bolts tight. Clueless. Then, I dropped my 175 piece socket set all over the garage floor I just gathered everything up, put it in the box and walked away.

PH8 is the correct filter.A little sealant does not hurt.Is the mating surface of the pump flat or maybe slightly warped?The other thing to look at is the oil filter mounting plate.Notorious for leaking.They flatten out over the years and dont seal tightly against the block.There is a topic on fixing them.There is also a new adapter made of alumonum from a seller on Ebay.

Ok so i checked today and it's the oil filter mount that's leaking. Is the fix you all mentioned worth doing or should I buy the new aluminum one on eBay? If so anyone have a link to that?

It depends on your finances and personal desire. You will have to do the same amount of work to remove and replace yours as it takes to remove and repair. You already have a spin on filter adapter so I think I would do the Walt Knuckles trick and repair it. I've done it before and it works pretty well. Chuck

Oldcarmark, your not kidding on the price and the price for a new bolt. WOW! But, Im a firm believer in spending money right, and once to do the job right. Think when I come back from vacation I will buy the aluminum one. Anyone have any experience with these?

Apparently you can re-use the old bolt.There was a previous topic on these adapters.Ted has used them as well as a couple of others and were very happy with them.Solves the leak problem permanently from what I have read.

Great tech info. Sounds like the adapter is the way to go. My mounting bolt is a bit rounded off. Looks like the PO may have had a leaking issue and figured it needed some extra love. I will order one in a few weeks. Thanks again. Don't know where I'd be without hese forums!

So a few days ago I installed the aluminum adapter plate and it fit great! No more oil leak either. The original stamped steel plate was bowed and coated in blue RTV sealant. Think the PO used the whole tube! Anyway, the new plate is a great product. Thanks for everyones help.
