help setting up gauges

Looks like Im going to get a set of gauges. Volt, vacuum and oil pressure..Ohh and one other.

Where and how is the best place for the oil pressure gauge to hook into a Yblock?

Now to the other. My fuel gauge is stuffed ['56 12 volt] I think I am going to have trouble finding another one, so for the time being can I get an aftermarket one ? Anyone know of one that will work?

The oil presure gauge sender can go in any of the oil passages on the left side of motor.I T'd mine in with the existing sender on the front opening.Are you using electrical or mechanical gauge with a line to it?The voltmeter gets power(+) from the ignition switch terminal that is on with key in the run position.The neg terminal gets grounded anywhere convenient.

Where are you located?

I converted my 56 to Stewart Warner gauges and have my old fuel gauge and sending unit. Could consider selling it-

You can hook up oil pressure gauge in fitting above oil pump or fitting in front of left motor mount. I would use the one where the oil pressure sending unit is in and put in a tee so both read from same place.

Thanks chaps! more than likely it will be a mechanical oil pressure gauge. I'll have to get the copper line conversion too, none of that plastic stuff BigGrin

Good idea with the copper.I cringe when I see someone using the plastic that comes in the kit.Dont forget to put a loop or two between firewall and engine for vibration absorber.

I agree that the clear plastic supplied with kits isn't very good. It wasn't any good 50 years ago, and I don't think it has gotten any better. We use Synflex

in our 18 wheelers. It withstands the vibration where any type of metal won't. It is available at any heavy truck dealer.
