I love reading the stories here on all the good finds people come up with and I found one of my own. I ran across this deal over on the H.A.M.B. and couldn't pass it up. I got this from a guy whose Dad had passed on and he found all this when he was going through his stuff. The whole thing was like a time capsule from the 60's. Everything was NIB. All of the boxes had stickers from Speed-O-Motive speed shop in South Gate Ca. Any of you Ca. guys recognize this place? For 250$ I got a set of Jahns pistons, Grant rings, Isky RPM300 cam, lifters, springs & retainers. Also got a set of tubular push rods, oil pump, 8 1.92 intake valves, 8 exhaust valves & a double roller timing chain. The biggest box was a 0.10/0.10 crank (w/a balance tag from Automotive Balancing Services in L.A.) and Federal Mogal engine bearings. Quite a find I think. I was able to post 1 picture, I'll try to post more. Hope they're not too big.

Nice find. Speedo-o-motive was BIG in California years ago. I believe they were well known for stroker kits. I seem to remember they had a mail catalog also. They are still in business today. http://www.speedomotive.com/

Thats good to know they're still in business. Maybe I'll email them and tell them what I found. Latest date I found was 8/8/68 on the crankshaft tag. Seems like he was stocking up on y-block parts to build a 57 Ford (most of the boxes have 57 Ford written on them). He must have been going after those scrubs back then.

Nice work Lowrider!  Wasnt a block or heads present to go with all the parts?

No block or heads. Although the guys  Dad was a car guy (he also left him a 32 Ford pick-up) he didn't know anything about the y-block parts until after he died. The latest date on everything was in '68. The guy was early 40's at the oldest. Maybe his Dad put off the y-block build to raise his family. Thats been known to happen now and then.

Thats a great lot of parts from the past! as a later update on Speedomotive when they were in Slausen ave, i bought all the remaining y block stuff, engines, forged pistons etc. there were boxes of reconditioned rods upstairs that i never went through and could have been C1, C2 rods? Allways wondered about that, i believe they got rid of any old parts when they moved again and only do modern parts? Enjoy those parts!Smile

I emailed them and told them what I picked up and they were happy to here about it. Said they heard from people once or twice a month about parts people have found. Also mentioned that they did about 1 y-block a year for people.
