The rear axle seal is leaking on my 55 Ford Sunliner.  My Motor's repair manual says to use a "suitable seal driver" to install the seal.  What is a seal driver, what size do I use, and where can I find one?  Any other helpful hents on how best to complete this project will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

A seal driver in this instance is a round tool with a step that fits inside the new seal and the OD is slightly smaller than the OD of the seal.  Carefully tapping the seal into place with a flat punch, being careful not to cock the seal, will work fine.

Gary I have used a 3/4 drive socket that is little bit smaller than the seal with the 4 inch extension worked fine just make sure the seal lip faces to the diff and be gentel when you install it  shakey PeteWink

Gary,

Be sure to check the axle for a seal wear groove. If the new seal is not installed on an unworn surface, it will likely leak soon. While a speedi-sleeve is the more correct repair, you COULD just space the seal out with a couple snap rings. Silicon around the outer seal case is good insurance also.

Moved to technical section.  Also rebumping to the top.
