Hey Guys/Gals,

I got this cam awhile ago and would like to know more about it(lift specs). The box corner reads 296/302 R7, I would assume that this is the Adv. Duration? and the cam is a EBU A with H&C 6679 engraved on the snout. If anyone could help I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your time,

Brian

With an EBU casting is this an early 239 core?  You may want to count the number of teeth, 13 T early, 14 T later.  The "H&C", is that a Harmon & Collins regrind?  You may want to Cam Doctor or measure the lobe attributes.  Did the box actually go with this cam or was it from another cam and just used to store it in?

Regards,

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

I just counted the teeth and there are 13, also a 29 on the opposite side of the EBU and the center journal does not have the oil groove. I guess I will send it out and have it checked.

Thanks,Brian

I have the original cam from my 239 here. It has EBU A on it also. It was a 13 tooth distributor. It's in an Isky box now. Maybe your box was the new cam box?

The old man I got it from told me it was a re grind "Hot Little Cam".

Dennis: unless you are going to use it in a 239, it's likely a waste of your money to have it checked out. If I understand correctly, it wont fit in the later Y engines...

Measuring the O.D. of the camshaft journals may also help to identify the camshaft.  If the journal diameter is 2.050”, then it’s a ’54 large journal camshaft.  If the journal diameter is 1.956”, then it fits 1955 and newer blocks.  Based on the distributor gear tooth count, sounds like this camshaft is for the 1954 239 & 256 engines.
