Adding to what Tim has said, the C6 transmissions are engine family specific and as such, there’s not one out there that is a direct bolt on to the Y without an adapter. A C4 auto trans behind the Y is a common swap with the Flat-O-Matic adapter. The original FMX, FordOMatics, and CruisOMatics are a direct bolt in if you find a complete setup already behind a Y. The FMX, FOM, & COM's behind the FE (352/390) engines will not work without a bellhousing and torque converter change. Late model AOD’s can be made to work with an adapter also but are also not direct bolt ins.
